RustDesk help

Simple remote-support setup for arranged Laptop Clinic sessions.

Use this page only when you already have a booked session with Laptop Clinic. Download the approved RustDesk version from this site, open it, and tell us the ID and one-time password shown on your screen.

Before you start

  • Only do this during an arranged Laptop Clinic appointment.
  • If someone cold-calls you and asks you to install remote software, stop immediately.
  • Stay by the computer while the session is active.
  • If the computer will not turn on or cannot get online, use the normal repair booking instead.

What you will need

  • A Windows computer that turns on and can get online
  • Your mobile phone nearby in case we call you
  • A few minutes to read out the ID and password on screen
  • Patience with pop-ups such as Open, Run, or Allow

Step by step

1. Click the download button

Your browser should download the RustDesk program. On most computers you will see it appear at the bottom of the browser or in the Downloads folder.

2. Open the downloaded file

If Windows asks whether to open or run the file, choose the option that lets RustDesk start. You do not need to hunt through folders once it opens.

3. Tell us the ID and password

Once RustDesk is open, it will show an ID and a one-time password. Read those to Laptop Clinic during the booked appointment.

4. Stay present while we work

You can watch the session while we work. If anything looks unexpected, say so straight away and we will stop.

If you get stuck

I cannot find the download

Look at the top or bottom of your browser for the downloaded file, or open the Downloads folder on your PC.

The computer warns me before opening it

That is normal for many downloaded programs. If this is your arranged Laptop Clinic session, read the message carefully and choose the option that opens the file.

I can see RustDesk but not the code

Tell us what you can see on screen and we will guide you. Do not click random extra settings unless asked.

Remote help is not suitable after all

If the issue is physical, power-related, or the computer cannot get online, use the workshop repair booking instead.
